What is your current role/work project?
I am currently working as a C# .Net developer for a financial institution.

What do you like most about this role/project?
The thing I like most about this role and project is the people I work with. Everyone on the project team is willing to help each other—a particularly good attribute when you’re a graduate who knows little about the project or working life in general. Another thing I like about this project is that it is exactly what I wanted to be doing! When I was interviewed and asked which area of the business I wanted to work in, I indicated that I wanted a semi-technical role and that I would like to work with a financial client.

Why did you join Accenture?
I joined Accenture for several reasons. Firstly, I was interested in the IT industry and wanted to be involved in particular with consulting. Secondly, I wanted to gain experience working on projects for clients in a variety of industries. Finally, I liked the culture and attitude of Accenture that was conveyed to me through discussions with recruiters and employees.

What do you like most about working for Accenture?
The thing I like best about working for Accenture is the people. I am able to work with people from different backgrounds and levels of experience. I can meet people from all arms of the organization, at different stages in their career, and hear about their journeys and experiences

What do you find interesting or unique about what you do?
The thing that I find most interesting about what I do is that I have a great deal of interaction with people from the client site. I am very pleased to have this level of interaction and responsibility; something I only thought possible once I gained more experience.

What does a typical day hold for you?
A typical day for me involves both individual and team work. I usually spend part of my day working on developing/implementing solutions to problems within our software. This involves writing code and documentation, and reporting updates to my manager.

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
I really enjoy the variety of work I do. Each day, I work on different tasks which require me to work with different people within our group.

What tools and resources do you have to assist you to get your job done?
There are several resources available to me. Firstly, there is the Accenture online training which provides various courses. These can be general to the business or more specific to my role on my project. Secondly, there is classroom-based training which is specific to the part of the organization you work in. For example, I recently completed a two-week classroom-based course for those within the Systems Integration & Technology arm of the business. Finally, my project provides internal resources that assist with completing daily tasks in accordance with procedures, including orientation sessions and documentation.

What prior experience did you have when you joined Accenture?
When I joined Accenture I had no prior work experience in the IT industry or in consulting. During university I worked as a tutor for various first- and second-year subjects.

What have you learned since you joined Accenture?
I have learnt a lot since I joined Accenture! I have learnt many new skills about business processes for end-to-end development, as well as skills relating to collaboration and team work. This is particularly important as our development team is split between the Accenture office and the client site.

What has been some of the biggest challenges of your job so far?
One of the biggest challenges of my job so far has been getting up to speed with the project. Not only did I have to learn new skills, but I had to put these into practice to begin delivering timely solutions for the client. Other challenges have included learning about the overall project and not just the parts that I work on, and how to work effectively with my new team.

What are the people like?
The people I work with are fantastic! In particular, the people in my project team are always willing to help and give advice.

How do you all work together?
We all work very well together. All work tasks are divided between us, but it is quite easy to find someone to discuss a problem with, even if they are working on a different task.

What would you say to other people thinking of joining Accenture?
I would highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in IT and consulting, and who enjoys being challenged. I would recommend that they do some research into Accenture to find out about the various parts of the business so that they can make an informed decision about which workforce they feel they are best suited to work.

How do you describe what you do to friends/your family?
I generally describe consulting work as acting like a translator between a business that needs an IT solution and a business that can provide an IT solution. In particular, the work I am doing at present is to actually write the code that contributes to an IT solution.

Why did you choose to do what you do at Accenture versus somewhere else?
The biggest contributing factor was the choice or projects (and hence clients). I have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients in different industries, without narrowing it down too early in my career.

How do you see your career developing at Accenture?
I see my career at Accenture being long and rewarding. I feel that the tools provided by Accenture through training and online resources will enable me to take advantage of opportunities that can further my career. I would like to gain experience working with a variety of clients and teams and possibly do some travelling overseas.
