Degree Studied?
I studied a Bachelor of Computing (Multimedia Technologies) at Deakin University and also a Bachelor of Computing Honours at Monash University.
What is your current role/work project?
I am working on the Telstra project as a PMO Finance Analyst. My role is to report, track, and invoice change requests.
What do you like most about this role/project?
I am learning new concepts from a finance perspective, which is interesting and challenging. I also like the fact that I have regular interaction with the client and senior management.
Why did you join Accenture?
Accenture has a great reputation, has a large variety of work with many different clients, and offers excellent training such as the Core Analyst School.
What do you like most about working for Accenture?
I like the fact that you can take on quite a large amount of responsibility very early on in your career. Also, the people at Accenture are interesting and fun to work with.
What do you find interesting or unique about what you do?
Interacting with the client is always interesting because it gives me a better understanding of how to meet their requirements and what they are like. I think the fact that I know how to turn effort into a dollar figure is pretty unique.
What does a typical day hold for you?
Calculating financial figures and reviewing them with management and the client takes up a good part of my week. The rest of my time is spent managing workplans in Microsoft Project, writing macros to automate work, and having a coffee with my colleagues every now and then.
What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
I enjoy the fact that I can manage my own responsibilities at my own pace and still have support from the people around me when needed.
What tools and resources do you have to assist you to get your job done?
I use Microsoft Project to manage my workplans and Microsoft Excel for my reports.
What prior experience did you have when you joined Accenture?
I actually did an Internship with Accenture before becoming a graduate. This experience gave me a great insight about the company and the people behind it.
What have you learned since you joined Accenture?
I have learned many things at Accenture but the most important skills I have learned are communication and teamwork. I am continuing to learn these skills in all areas of my work.
What has been some of the biggest challenges of your job so far?
I’ve never worked in finance before so understanding the concepts and processes behind this was the biggest challenge.
What have you done that tested you the most?
There have been a few times that required me to work quickly and accurately to meet the needs of the client. It is satisfying to walk away from these times successfully.
What are the people like?
The people are what make work interesting and stimulating. Being able to share views and experiences with people from a mixed diversity is great. It also does not matter whether you’re new or experienced; you will find that everyone will be happy to help out.
How do you all work together?
Working with others on this project has been great! There are a lot of inspiring people on this project that are very good at what they do.
What would you say to other people thinking of joining Accenture?
Accenture will challenge you and train you to handle any situation.
How do you describe what you do to friends/your family?
I tell them that I help make sure the client coughs up the money for everyone’s hard work.
Why did you choose to do what you do at Accenture versus somewhere else?
It was really my experience as an intern that helped me make the decision. It allowed me to work on a real project and see what opportunities the company had to offer me. This was further cemented when I was interviewed by a senior manager who gave me an excellent overview of the company and what it had to offer me.
How do you see your career developing at Accenture?
I hope to try the many different types of work within Accenture so I can continue learn and face new challenges.
