Recognizing the important role of business in society, Accenture is committed to the active involvement of its people in community support initiatives both in Canada and around the world.
We believe it is extremely important that you have opportunities to use your skills and capabilities in community focused projects. To make this possible, we have put in place a structured approach to corporate citizenship in Canada, supported by executive leadership, which focuses on three levels of community support: Global, National and Local.
At the Local level, committees are in place in each of our Canada locations to identify specific community needs and identify actions that can be taken to address those needs. Volunteering is often a component of our local activities and our people are encouraged to get involved any way they can.
Examples of local activities in Canada include: Habitat for Humanity in Toronto (pictured on this page); ‘Paddle for Kids’ for BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver; Gateway Association for Community Living in Edmonton; Le Club des petits déjeuners du Québec in Montreal; and the H.O.P.E. Volleyball Beachfest in Ottawa, to name just a few.
At the National level we have partnerships with four community-focused organizations: United Way, Terry Fox Foundation, Junior Achievement and Engineers without Borders. Accenture people across Canada get involved annually with volunteer and fundraising activities that support these charities.
Examples of National program activities include:
• Organizing an office event to raise money for the Terry Fox Run or United Way
• Joining a committee to manage a United Way or Terry Fox Run campaign in your city
• Teaching a full day curriculum on money management to a class of Grade 7 students through Junior Achievement - 151 Accenture people in Canada did this in 2004!
There are two organizations at the Global support level that Accenture people can choose to become involved with: Accenture Development Partnerships and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).
ADP was established to drive economic and social development in the developing world by using the high quality business and technology consulting capabilities our people possess. It is a charitable organization borne out of and sponsored by Accenture.
Through ADP, eligible Accenture Consulting workforce people who qualify can take on a six month assignment with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) supporting communities in the developing world. Our people remain employees of Accenture throughout their assignments at a reduced pay level, and gain valuable experience, using their skills and expertise in challenging projects that help NGOs realize their goals.
VSO is an international development charity that sends people to share their skills and experience with local communities in the developing world. Accenture people who volunteer for VSO want the chance to make a real difference in the fight against poverty. All Accenture full-time employees who meet eligibility requirements may choose to take a leave of absence and become involved in this program. While there is no salary paid during time spent with VSO, participants do receive payments to help them defray their fixed costs such as mortgage payments or life insurance coverage.
