“From the interview process, I found out about their global work, great training, structured promotion process and the opportunity to learn new skills in change management. I was offered a position with a highly competitive salary, and I guess you can say the rest is history!”

Current Projects

Tanya says that the best thing about working for Accenture is the variety of work and clients we have. She has worked on over seven large systems implementations both packaged and custom built—and in five years has had more than 14 different roles. These different experiences have provided great skills development—technical, professional and managerial.
She says, “Accenture is, in the main, an information technology implementation company—which means a lot of the work we do is related to large systems. You don’t need to come from a technology background to be successful at Accenture (but it helps!), but you have to be willing to try and learn new things. You need to be able to find information technology interesting.”

Working on Global Teams
|
There are lots of different personalities in Accenture so one gets great diversity—although there are some shared characteristics. Accenture people are typically highly capable, confident, “can do” people that keep going until problems are resolved. They take initiative and are quick to pick up extra work to help get the job done—people really support each other on project teams.

Putting Skills to Work
|
Tanya has been with Accenture almost five years, joining in late 2000 after having completed an undergraduate degree in communications and a postgraduate degree in East Asian studies. With an unusual academic background, Tanya was not sure what company would best suit her skill set, but a friend told her about Accenture’s broad recruitment policy.

Personal Satisfaction
|
“One of the great things about the company is its performance feedback process,” Tanya says. “Your team leaders and managers will let you know how you are doing. For example, they will spend time to reinforce your strengths and give you strategies to deal with your areas for improvement. So in the end, you are clear about what you need to do to progress through the firm.”
The most enjoyable thing about Tanya’s job is figuring out what makes people tick and then how she can use this information to influence the way people react to change—this can be within the team or within the end-user group. “People are fascinating and are often the most unpredictable part of any major change,” she says.
