Accenture supported the 2009 Junior Achievement ‘Build your Business Empire’ competition held at Bina Nusantara University on January 10-11. Accenture’s involvement with Junior Achievement, a non-profit organization with a mission to train younger generations to be entrepreneurs, highlights our commitment to supporting education and entrepreneurship in Indonesia.
The ‘Build your Business Empire’ competition tests the entrepreneurial skills of high school and university students in using JA Titan software. It brings together the students and companies for two days of competition and creativity.
“We are proud to be involved in a Junior Achievement Indonesia activity,” said Accenture senior executive, Hamidjojo Surjotdedjo. “All around the world Accenture has been involved in programs like this that encourages student creativity, and helps them to understand the current business context.”
The competition involved 36 teams from eight universities, including Accenture High Performing Scholarship recipients and finalists. Participants were from Gadjah Mada University, the University of Indonesia, and Bandung Institute of Technology. Additionally, eight Accenture volunteers were at hand to provide guidance and tips on business strategies to the students.
The key activity was a business case that required the teams to sketch out a business plan for a hologenerator company operating in 2035. Hologenerators are, as yet, fictional machines that create and project holograms. The students had to develop marketing, investment, research and development strategies, and corporate social responsibility plans as components of the activity.
Out of the 10 teams sponsored by Accenture, 9 made it to the semi-final; and one achieved a third place in the final round. The awards were presented by Accenture Senior Executive, Hamidjojo Surjotedjo.
