In 2006, Accenture employees in Jakarta reached into their pockets to help areas that were struck by natural disasters. One major area was Yogyakarta in Central Java that was hit by a 7.5 Richter scale earthquake. Employees collected more than Rp. 20 million Rupiah (US$ 2250) and were matched by Accenture’s social funds totaling Rp. 60 million (US$6500) in cash and goods. A few months later, employees also pitched in for the tsunami hit area of Pangandaran, West Java. Two relief posts each received 5 million Rupiah (US$550). Reaching out to help is not something new at Accenture Jakarta. In 2004, together with the Accenture Development Partnership program, employees also volunteered their time in the recovery effort in Aceh and Nias after the locations were destroyed by the unexpected tsunami. Prior to that, during the city-wide flood in Jakarta, employees provided basic necessities – food, clothing, tents, blankets, etc. – for the people affected by the high-rising water.
