Describe your background
In 2000 I got a Bachelor’s degree in Computer science from the Oslo College. I specialized in Java programming and system development. I joined Accenture immediately after I had finished my studies.
Why did you choose Accenture?
There were two things I considered important when I was looking for a job after finishing my studies: Professional challenges (both technical and management/leadership challenges) in my daily work, and the chance to further enhance my technical skills. The IT industry develops rapidly, so keeping up with all the changes is crtitical. So far I've finished two SUN certifications and have started a third one.
What do you like most about your job?
My speciality (Java and JEE programming) makes me a purely technical resource. I work in a department at Accenture where you really come to grips with your chosen field and become a dedicated specialist. But since technology is used across so many specialized fields, I also get to work with many different kinds of projects and a wide variety of clients. It's a great combination, and always keeps me motivated and challenged.
What other project experience have you had with Accenture?
I've completed three large projects for three entirely different architectures, within three different industries: the finance sector (solution for share trading/stock brokerage and banking), the oil and gas industry (internal banking solution) and the public sector (case management application). The tasks have been varied, involving functional and technical design, programming, testing, heading the development environment, database responsibilities, being team leader of the development team and being responsible for migration, etc. All of these projects have been technically challenging, and that’s important for my job satisfaction. This, plus great colleagues and clients, adds an extra kick to every day.
What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working as a technical designer for the largest SOA project in Norway, where I get to dig deep into the challenges of handling a massive amount of data at the same time. Complexity is a positive driver for me, and knowing that this solution will be critical for Norwegians in years to come, I feel that my contribution here is important and highly appreciated by the client.
