Mary Anne, a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Studies from the University of the Philippines in Manila, earned the Custom BPO Trainer position through a job search site. From there, a recruitment officer scheduled her for an initial interview, and it took her only two weeks before she received a job offer.
Since then, her work at Accenture involves conducting product and technical training for newly hired employees, and scheduling all the required training for her team. Mary Anne finds each new day to be as unique as the last. She faces different opportunities and challenges everyday. She cites this as the reason behind her efficiency and success in her job.
True enough, this Accenture Trainer has been very successful in everything she does for the company. We asked her to share some of her project experiences, the day to day tasks demanded of her, and to elaborate how she was able to attain her goals.
Mary Anne was behind the development of several projects in Accenture. She helped develop the systems and processes of the Acceleration Development Program which helps cultivate employees with high potential for leadership, through training and coaching from direct supervisors, to prepare them for higher leadership positions, and eventually equip them with the right tools to succeed in their positions.
She also came up with a culture-building initiative for the team in order to promote the practice of Accenture values as a way of life for employees. Through this initiative, employees are empowered to make important decisions that impact on the team. They also aid the management team in decision-making and problem-solving. Furthermore, she spearheaded the development of a competency-based Performance Evaluation System. This is a quarterly process of evaluating the performance of employees across levels and departments through the use of a formalized system for evaluation aligned with the Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Accenture’s Standards of Performance.
Mary Anne’s work does not end with what is delegated to her. During her spare time, she is helping the operations team to formulate organizational development interventions. Aside from this, she keeps herself busy in extra-curricular activities inside Accenture. Mary Anne serves in the Program and Membership Evaluation Committee of the Accenture Leadership Advancement Program (LeAP) in the Philippines. She has helped to develop a process for evaluating programs and membership performance through a formalized system for evaluation aligned with the Rewards and Recognition activities of the LeAP Council.
Mary Anne has had a great depth of experience while at Accenture. She has not only contributed to the achievements of the company, but Accenture likewise has imparted things she needed to know about the industry and about life in general. She says that she has learned to be more responsible in delivering quality results, and making sure that she gives her best in order to produce excellent service. She counts the formation of strong foundations and relationship values within teams to be the most significant teachings that she can impart. “Leadership is about building an inclusive community,” she says. “Relationships and culture do more in motivating people than (an) increase in salary.”
Lastly, she says the road to success is not easy – it takes time, patience, dedication, and the right opportunities. She also gives a sage advice on finding the right role models such as tenured team leads and managers. “Listen to them and learn from their experiences as they were once in your position. Take the opportunity to teach someone because there is nothing more gratifying than the feeling of having helped someone improve and grow.”
