At Accenture, we partner with our employees in building their careers. We recognize that people have different career goals and expectations so we have a flexible system designed to accommodate individual requirements and provide the broadest possible range of career opportunities. Our training programs are tailored to individual needs, and the courses people take depend on their skills, experience and areas of interest. Training is conducted in a variety of ways, from classrooms to the web. Our people have the opportunity to learn from and be coached by the best in the business – supportive leaders and colleagues who can pass on their industry, technical and functional expertise. In fact, over 160,000 Accenture people completed more than 15,000 different courses in 2007. We use a well-managed combination of courses, practical experience on the job and feedback to enable our people to develop specialist skills that help them grow professionally.
We also offer Career Counseling to help you decide where you want your skills to take you and an internal job postings program to support your career advancement. Plus our performance management programs will keep you up to speed on your own progress, as will our range of communication and feedback initiatives.
Career management at Accenture is a collaborative journey where we work with an employee to help them realize and reach their aspirations.
We provide our employees with opportunities, not just to climb up to the next level in their careers, but also to explore career development opportunities within and across business lines and functions. Through our Internal Job Posting Program, you can ensure that you get continuous learning, growth and enhanced career mobility to build up your functional knowledge by moving across projects. Cross-functional movements will help you gain diverse domain expertise across our various lines of business. The program provides employees with the support needed to achieve career advancement through a transparent and predictable selection process, robust feedback and more choice in terms of opportunities.
Our dynamic approach towards the growth and development of our employees extends to career management. Each individual has a structured career path, designed in collaboration with the employee and his or her Career Counselor. Every employee at Accenture has a designated Career Counselor who is often someone other than the reporting supervisor. The Counselor is responsible for monitoring, mentoring and counseling the employee to assist them in their growth within the organization.
Performance management is one of our most important processes because it enables us to evaluate individual performance, coach our people in their development and reward them appropriately. This process also supports career development through the sharing of detailed performance feedback, which highlights an individual’s strengths and areas for development.
The performance management process is a shared responsibility among individuals and their supervisors and career counselors. Through regular performance reviews, employees can discuss with their supervisors their short-term and long-term development needs, career aspirations and goals for the future. Supervisors and counselors in return give feedback and guidance on career issues and provide employees with a clear idea of their performance and their career options.
This approach to performance management and career development encourages open and honest communication about strengths and development needs. It enables individuals to proactively lead their career development in a direction that will be most meaningful to them.
In an organization as big as ours, clear communication is vital. So if something happens at work, such as a change in personnel policy or in business direction, we make sure you know about it straightaway. We are also keenly interested in your point of view so we build channels which enable you to provide and get feedback. Our Global People Survey is an annual opportunity for you to tell us how you feel about everything from training to rewards to culture and job satisfaction. We also have an internal information portal, which has an area dedicated to employee feedback and discussion.
