Held in February, the Accenture Experience was a one-day case-study competion held to give students an opportunity to test their skills in consulting, and to gain insight into the work of a consultant.
Thirty students from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University were selected to attend this event at the Accenture Singapore office.
Students were randomly divided into groups and were asked to work against the clock to complete the given case. The case was derived from the Accenture Development Partnerships (ADP) program: Accenture’s global initiative to provide assistance in developing countries. At staggered intervals, students were presented with challenges such as additional case information, or the requirement to swap one team member with another group due to a change in client requirements. At the end of three hours, teams presented their solutions to a panel of Accenture judges who asked them questions and assessed their teamwork, problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Sharad Arora, a student from the National University of Singapore described The Accenture Experience as "a stimulating and enriching experience", while Alvin Chia from Singapore Management University was impressed by the level of involvement and team spirit of Accenture staff.
This event was graced by Ms. Teo Lay Lim, country managing director and Mr. Ong Whee Teck, a senior executive of Accenture Technology Consulting. Along with other senior managers and managers, they adjudicated and provided students with valuable feedback on the session.
The competition not only offered the students the chance to strut their strategic thinking and analytical skills in a fast-paced environment, with similarities to a real consulting environment; but also allowed them to experience the Accenture culture and find out more about career paths as an Accenture graduate consultant.
