If there’s one thing we know about you, it’s that you want to know what you’ll actually be doing as a Consultant at Accenture. We can’t tell you exactly what the future holds, because it’s always changing to meet client demands. What we can say is that you’ll definitely be working as part of project teams made up of people with different skills and specializations. And that it’s going to be demanding. You’ll need to be very mobile, intellectually astute and ready to apply your intelligence to a huge range of experiences.
Basically, there are two components – industry expertise and specialised skills – that together define your role and determine your main focus of work and the kind of assignments you will get, as well as the approaches and technologies that you’re likely to use.
The first component – industry expertise – is based on delivering our services and solutions through five Operating Groups: Communications & High Tech, Financial Services, Government, Products and Resources. These groups provide an in-depth understanding of particular industries in the marketplace.
The second component – specialised skills – means that we also have Capability Groups that offer cross-industry expertise in particular skills areas (e.g., Strategy, Customer Relationship Management, Finance & Performance Management, Technology Architecture, and many more). If you choose, as your career progresses, you can become highly knowledgeable and experienced in one industry sector or capability.
Finally, every member of the Consulting workforce is aligned with one of the following Workgroups which represent your career options when you join the company:
Consulting professionals in the Business & Systems Integration Consulting workgroup deliver large-scale, complex programs that marry processes with technology to help our clients achieve high performance. They specialise in the design, development, integration and delivery of functional and industry solutions and processes for clients based on existing packages such as SAP or custom-built systems.
In the Technology Consulting workgroup, consultants deliver technology innovation and provide the backbone of our systems integration business. They design and deliver large-scale enterprise architecture and technology solutions, assess and diagnose technology environments, create technology infrastructure such as networks, security and platforms, set technology strategies, and tune technology environments for optimal performance.
Consultants in the Business Consulting workgroup focus on organisational change and business transformation. They apply market-relevant skills such as business strategy, supply chain management, Talent & Organization Performance and customer relationship management across industries.
Most of our consulting people work at client sites or in Accenture offices. Some client site engagements can be lengthy and a long way from home. We make sure our people stay connected to their Accenture colleagues, supported by a robust communications infrastructure. And we have a flexible approach that encourages you to strike the right balance between your personal life and work, especially if that work involves considerable travel.
