“Accenture is doing so much more than IT. We are developing and implementing business strategies that help companies to become high performers. And IT can, as an enabler of organization’s processes, be critical to business success. It’s through this integration with people and business processes that the true value of IT is created. That’s what attracts people.”

Describe your background

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Uppsala University in mechanical engineering. And I have a doctorate in integrated product and production development from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. My career started in a small professional engineering training and contract manufacturing subsidiary of a large Swedish industrial equipment company. My work there included manufacturing technology development as well as training of both the white collar and blue collar workforce in robotics and manufacturing automation.

Then I moved to a large high-tech manufacturer where I was involved, first as a specialist and then as leader, in various corporate supply and sourcing initiatives. During the course of my career at the high-tech company I received my doctorate at KTH. By the end of my thesis work I moved to KTH to serve as director of a manufacturing research center and to work as a freelance consultant. I came to Accenture in September of 2005.

Why did you choose Accenture?

A headhunter called and told me about Accenture—how they were working on both strategic and operational-level issues and with R&D issues helping their clients to become high performance businesses. I was interested and met with executives from the company who convinced me that Accenture was the right place for me.

When I decided to join Accenture, I sent a couple of emails to friends and colleagues. The responses I got were like, “Isn’t Accenture an IT company?” Accenture is doing so much more than IT. We are developing and implementing business strategies that help companies to become high performers. And IT can, as an enabler of organization’s processes, be critical to business success. It’s through this integration with people and business processes that the true value of IT is created. That’s what attracts people.

What do you like most about your job?

I went from running a research center to becoming one of many employees in a large firm, but I don’t feel my influence has shrunk. That’s because I’m working on senior- management level issues, boosting the performance at some of the world’s leading companies.

I also like the people here. I’m impressed by them and humbled by the knowledge around me. One of the core values at Accenture is, “Respect for the individual.” I work with a small core team in the Nordic region and we have a great deal of freedom in shaping our work.

What are you working on now?

Right now I'm leading an organizational change program for a major industrial equipment company in Sweden. I’m re-organizing their product development, procurement and sourcing, and manufacturing functions. I work at the client site, shaping and running the change program together with client executives leveraging Accenture’s change management specialists in the back office.
