Prior to joining Accenture I was working for the United Nations World Food Programme based in Rwanda. For two years I was looking after the Finance/Administration Units for emergency operations after the genocide and I supported the Democratic Republic Congo emergency operations for its refugees. I was looking for a different challenge and wanted a career change. I chose consulting as it meant I could face new challenges with different projects and increase my learning curve about various businesses. I chose Accenture due to its vision, the mission of the company and its values, especially in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility, and its commitment to social cause. The main challenges I faced in making my career change was adapting to a new environment; London ‘a concrete jungle’ as opposed to Africa, a true jungle where the food chain truly called for some creativity. Through working for Accenture I have met so many new people, the best thing is the different cultures I experience with the different projects I work on. What tips would I have for people thinking about changing careers and joining a consultancy? I’d say expect the unexpected, consultancy is like a performing art, such as driving or singing, and the instrument is you. It takes lots of practice and it takes considerable self knowledge and self management. Meet other Accenture people
