Will I feel lost working in such a huge organisation? Accenture is certainly big, but what’s good is that it is made up of smaller, more manageable communities that you'll soon come to know and feel part of. You'll quickly make friends with colleagues who share your specialisation and with other Accenture staff on the projects you choose to work on—in no time, you’ll find you have your own personal and professional network within the organisation.
What are the people really like? Accenture people are more diverse than those you'll find in just about any other comparable organisation. They come from all backgrounds and all communities and bring a wealth of talents with them. Apart from the obvious there are only two requisites when it comes to Accenture people—a sense of purpose and a sense of humour. So if you’re expecting stereotypical consultants, you’re likely to be disappointed!
How will working at Accenture affect my lifestyle? Hopefully you’ll find your lifestyle improving. You'll certainly find your work life more challenging, more stimulating and more rewarding. Sometimes you'll work long hours. But we'll also help you find time for all the things you want to do outside work through our personal support services, optional sabbaticals, and community development schemes. We exist to help organisations discover smarter ways of working, and that applies just as much to our own people as it does to our clients.
How will I find joining Accenture as an experienced hire? In a word, stimulating. Your previous experience will be immediately recognised and harnessed by the area you join. The combination of familiar territory and new ways of working may take a little getting used to—but the immense satisfaction to be gained by putting your skills to work is, for many, the greatest reward of a move to Accenture.
What will make the work continually challenging and interesting? People at Accenture answer this question with a smile. That's because work at Accenture is the way work ought to be—constantly stimulating and varied. Every day is different. That may sound challenging now, but the stimulation that new situations and people provide will make you think more deeply, perform more effectively and continue to grow as a professional throughout your time with us. Accenture structures your career to help you be the best you can be.
Is working at Accenture as tough as I've heard? It's certainly challenging, and the learning curve can be steep for a while. If you're uncomfortable with change, don't like new situations and lose your critical faculties under pressure, then Accenture may not be the place for you. If, however, you enjoy performing to the best of your abilities (and constantly expanding those abilities as you work), and really making a difference to the projects you engage with, then the only aspect of life at Accenture you may find tough is trying to imagine how you ever enjoyed working anywhere else.
What influence will I have over my career progression? At Accenture we believe people do their best when they are doing what they really want to do. Like everybody else at Accenture you will be assigned a mentor to help you shape your career. Accenture is also unique in allowing you to help decide which projects you work on.
How will I continue to grow as a professional? The projects you’ll work on and the colleagues you’ll work alongside make this an extremely stimulating place to develop your career. If you want to be recognised as one of the best in your particular field, we’ll do our best to make that happen. There are a number of ways we can help—through personally-selected training, professional development programmes as well as guidance from the leading practitioners in every field of business.
What kind of training can I expect from Accenture? Every one of our people receives an annual allocation of training time—usually about 80 hours—which can be used in many different ways. At Accenture, training is not imposed from above, but chosen by you according to your own needs and wishes. You decide the areas you want to develop, then pick the most appropriate training from our unique database and arrange the programme to suit you.
