Tristan joined Accenture Technology Solutions as a junior software engineer in 2005, as his first real job after studying at Bristol University. He is now a team lead.
When I joined, I wanted to strengthen my technology skills as well as learn how they could be used in modern business. I hoped to work with good people who would help me to be successful and to develop my career. This has happened, and interestingly, I find that it’s sometimes the people you least expect who help your career the most.
The initial induction to the firm, which I attended with other new joiners, helped answer many questions we all had before starting. We were introduced to our HR representatives and outlined our career ambitions with them. We also learned how the scheduling and training processes work, which has proved to be invaluable to the working experience. We then attended a training course for a few weeks, which got us ready to start on our first projects.
The people in Accenture make the company what it is today. Accenture hires lots of different people from different backgrounds and with different skills. This helps to grow the workforce and promote diversity. Whatever the challenge, together we can tackle it. And on a more personal level, the people around you in the workplace do influence you tremendously and you learn more from them than anything else.
I’ve been pleased to have had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across varying business fields and in different locations. My current role is one of the most enjoyable I have been on. My area of responsibility is leading the team through analysis and implementation of System Issue Reports (SIRS found during the various test cycles. It’s a big change to manage, so the team lead role requires a lot of integration with the solution architecture team, other teams within Fix and external teams. It’s interesting work. I’m heavily involved with high-pressure solution and requirement gathering, as we work towards a deadline.
