Horizons Scheme
Need to know more

Imagine spending your gap year earning good money, gaining valuable experience on real-life Accenture projects - and still having the chance to travel before going to university.

Long straight dirt road

This scheme really does give you the best of both worlds. You’ll gain real-life experience with us for eight months, get paid a good salary and then have the time – and money – to travel before going to university.

What can I expect?
The scheme operates from September to April, and begins with an induction that takes place in London. Here, you’ll be able to find out more about our business and how our systems function. After this comes a stint at a London training centre where you’ll sharpen your IT knowledge - but as you’ll learn through participation rather than lectures, it won’t be like going back to school. We’ll also organise some social and group-based activities to help you get to know the other people taking part.

After this, it’s straight into the front line as part of a team in one of our industry areas. You’ll learn a lot - and quickly too - but help will always be available from the ‘buddy’ we’ll allocate you. They’ll be on hand to answer any questions you may have and provide well-informed advice. You’ll also have a couple of formal evaluations over the course of the scheme, so you can easily discover how well you’re doing and find out if there are any areas you need to work on.

Rewarding – in more ways than one
The benefits are really good. Not only will we pay you a salary of £20,000 pro-rata for the eight-month assignment, we’ll also offer you the choice between a travel bursary of £1,500 or the same level of sponsorship to cover your first year at university. If you perform extremely well, we’ll ask you to come back and work with us again during the summer vacation in your penultimate year, and possibly sponsor you throughout your time at university.

Could I qualify?
For a start, you must be an upper sixth-former with a genuine interest in business and technology. On top of that, you’ll need good grades in Maths and English at GCSE level or equivalent, and expect to attain 320 or more UCAS points at A-Level or equivalent (or five Bs in Scottish Highers). Your mature and confident approach means you’ll be prepared to live wherever in the UK your project is located. If we assign you to a project outside London we’ll arrange your accommodation for you - usually in a house or flat with other people on your project. You’ll need to find your own London base too, though.

Application and selection
If you’re invited for an interview, please send us a completed headteacher assessment form.

The selection process will take place in London. The first stage is a one-to-one interview with a manager or a member of our HR team. Pass this , and you’ll undertake a series of group exercises followed by a final one to one interview.

Applications open from the 1st September to the 7th December 2007.
