"The best thing about working for Accenture is the people you come in contact with everyday. Due to the nature of the work and the demanding problems a project creates you get to share ideas and work alongside intelligent, hard-working, successful people."

My first week at Accenture was dedicated to ‘ice-breakers’ (getting to know your co-workers better) rather than training in a technical sense. We were all taken to a rock climbing facility in North London on the first day which really helped with team bonding.

In the second week another intern and I found ourselves in the head office of one of the top 5 largest companies in the world starting our first project. We really were thrown in the deep end, but everyone on the project took time out of their schedule to explain things to us. I developed a huge range of skills in the first month – the learning curve was immense. It really is one of the best ways of learning.

The best thing about working for Accenture is the people you come in contact with everyday. Due to the nature of the work and the demanding problems a project creates you get to share ideas and work alongside intelligent, hard-working, successful people. Additionally, having the chance to work with the top companies in the industry means the job is full of ever-changing challenges.

The only downside was that after the first week the other interns you start with, apart from those actually on your project, go off in different directions around the country. However, we all managed to meet up at the end of most weeks to share our different experiences.

The project I was working on was with a multinational oil company, helping to standardise and modernise their financial platform across 4 European countries. Although I had worked abroad before in America and Europe, I had never worked in a corporate environment. It was quite daunting at first but it was good to have other interns and analysts around to help you out. As the 9 weeks progressed I was given more and more responsibility: firstly I was asked to do high level reporting on the status of the testing phase of an SAP system as well as taking meeting minutes with managers and senior executives. When I had familiarised myself with the roles I’d been given I was given further responsibilities which included flying out to Portugal for User Acceptance Testing with the client and helping to plan the training of users.

My tips to graduates joining the Navigator scheme would be to make sure that you really explore all the different facets of the company first hand during your internship. Accenture has a huge variety of jobs in different fields of technology and consultancy. Chat to analysts on your project and arrange to meet people in different Operating Groups; the Navigator scheme is a great way to explore your potential career path without having to make a long term job commitment.

Also don’t expect to work on more than one project in your 9 weeks. Although at first this was a bit of a disappointment to me, it means you have the chance to get properly involved in a project, to become part of the team and make a valuable contribution as well as getting an accurate picture of what work as an analyst is really like.
