Being a good corporate citizen is part of our identity. We support our people's passion to bring lasting, positive change to their communities, and we bring to our corporate citizenship efforts the same principles of high performance that we apply to our work with clients.
In our role as a global organization, Accenture believes we have a responsibility to engage proactively with the communities in which we live and work. That's why we are playing an active role in the San Antonio community.
Operation: Military Kids
Operation: Military Kids is a partnership of Army Child and Youth Services, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National 4-H program and other organizations. National participants in the Operation: Military Kids program are 4-H, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, The American Legion, and the Military Child Education Coalition. These and other groups work together to reach out and support military children and youth in rural, urban and suburban areas across the country.
In 2007, the Accenture Public Service volunteer network (PSvn) partnered with the national not-for-profit Operation: Military Kids (OMK) on two successful events—the Speak Out for Military Kids program and the annual Coast-to-Coast Backpack program.
Speak Out for Military Kids
Accenture sponsored this pilot program on June 30, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas. 19 students, aged 10-17, prepared speeches based on the Patriotic theme “Honor the Soldiers—Support the Families” and participated in a 2-day training program. Approximately 190 people attended the reception, including several senior military personnel, families and military support services, as well as Accenture executives.
Coast to Coast Backpack Program
Accenture's Government volunteer network worked nationwide to collect backpacks and school supplies for US students. Donations were made from 25 states to support this effort.
During “Backpack Stuffing Days” in the beginning of August, more than 300 Accenture volunteers across the United States prepared the backpacks to help students as they return to school.
In 2007, Accenture supported schoolchildren who are the sons and daughters of U.S. servicemen and women, focusing on specific military communities in Texas and California. Accenture supplied 600 backpacks in San Antonio and 550 backpacks in Sacramento at two successful “Family Day” distribution events, also staffed in part by Accenture volunteers.
