With a daughter approaching high school graduation and her entire extended family living in Ohio, making the decision to transfer to Accenture’s office in San Antonio was not an easy one. But with the support of her husband to ‘hold down the fort’ until their house sold and their daughter earned her diploma, Diana Wells embraced the opportunity to explore new territories in her professional and personal life.
Diana first joined Accenture as a contractor working on an outsourcing engagement in Fairborn, Ohio in September of 2005. With more than 20 years of experience in software development, Diana was eager to contribute her expertise in C# and .Net, but also learn new technologies on the project. When the project was complete, Diana was given the opportunity to transfer to the San Antonio Delivery Center and develop her skills even further in Java web development.
In April 2006, Diana became a full-time Accenture employee and in December 2007 joined the Java development team at the Accenture Delivery Center in San Antonio. “During my time as a contractor, I was able to add several new skills to my background. I knew that accepting this full-time role would provide me with new opportunities to grow with a technology leader.”
On Diana’s first project creating an Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator for a government project, Diana has been leveraging her background in C++, Java and C#. She’s also using Accenture’s training programs to learn J2EE web development to further her skills.
“I enjoy the technical side of my career in development, but am also looking for opportunities to enhance my leadership skills on projects and help mentor younger programmers in developing their skills.”
Having worked for several companies in both the commercial and government sectors, Diana continues to be impressed by Accenture’s support network. “Accenture provides a unique environment that is extremely proactive in making opportunities available for the employees as well as treating them as valued resources.”
On a personal note, Diana is looking forward to having her family join her in San Antonio and becoming more involved in the community.
